I had a spectacular time in the Kia Sorento PHEV SX Prestige all-wheel drive model. My time was spent driving all the way on I-97 East as far as Kent Island across the Bay Bridge. I drove into Annapolis Maryland. I also went west multiple times across I-270, I-70, and I-81 north.
On the way, I passed through Frederick and Hagerstown Maryland. I eventually made it to the Northeast and part of West Virginia. This is a PHEV that has a lot of power underneath the hood. It has a 1.6-liter turbocharged plug-in hybrid engine that makes 261 horsepower. It is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission. It has a permanent all-wheel drive mode.
The gasoline-only driving mode gets an EPA-rated 34 miles per gallon. With the electrified battery it gets a combined 79 miles per gallon. I was able to find a number of charging places. I charged while I went to get groceries at Whole Foods. I also found my regular spot to be EVgo charging stations available. The Sorento only has a level two charger capability.
I wasn’t going to be able to leverage the electrified America network. That is one of my favorites to charge electrified vehicles in. I really love the layout where you can seat six adults in the configuration that I drove. The configuration was a third-row seat, two captain chairs, and with a driver and passenger seat in the front.
The telematics is great, you have a 10.25-inch touchscreen with navigation that integrates the UVO link. You have a 4.2-inch digital cluster. You have wireless charging. You have several USB ports, you have heated and cool seats.
You have highway driver assists and you have a heated steering wheel. It also has Apple CarPlay. And Android auto integration.
I was able to play my music from the music project I did with Carnegie Mellon’s music department, in the Bose premium audio system.
The sound is pretty strong and it’s able to resonate with my audio frequencies. I spent time also going all the way north on I-95 to Port Deposit. That was really a calming experience for me. In the Sorento, I had a chance to go look at the water.
That calls to my spirit and helps me find solace in my soul. You could also listen to sounds in nature while driving a Kia. The base price of the Kia Sorento PHV SX prestige is $47,890.
