I had a spectacular time driving the BMW i5 eDrive40 sedan, a remarkable piece of engineering from the team at BMW. The i5 is essentially an all-electric version of the 5 Series.

My brother owns an M5 Competition and having experienced its performance, the i5 offers similar capabilities in terms of torque, but in an electrified way.

The i5 eDrive40 sedan is an impeccable machine, boasting rich features, exceptional torque, and advanced technology. The driving experience felt seamless, as BMW has created a platform that gives their customers a familiar yet completely electrified drive.

Driving around the Washington DC metropolitan area was a pleasure. I spent time on I-97 East across the Bay Bridge, finding moments to meditate in the silence of the BMW, complemented by the soothing sounds of the spa channel on the radio. It was a healing experience.

I also had the opportunity to give my mom a ride as she was heading to celebrate my niece’s wedding. She was thoroughly impressed by the car’s quality, fit, and finish, and was amazed that it was all-electric, especially since my younger brother owns the M5.

Beyond its performance, style, and technology, the i5 also features an exceptional Bowers & Wilkins sound system. I enjoyed listening to music I created with the music department at Carnegie Mellon. The carbon fiber finishes, digital display, and 21-inch wheels added to the allure of the i5, making it a vehicle I could see myself purchasing.

The base price of the i5 is $66,800, and with options like the premium package and M Sport package, it came to a delivered price of $78,995.

The driving range is 270 miles, but I was able to charge it to over 300 miles at various charging stations, including a ChargePoint charger For more information, visit www.BMW.com
