Over the past decade Hyundai has completed its ascent as a full line vehicle manufacturer in America. Where domestic manufacturers are reducing offering and abandoning cars all together, Hyundai is producing both cars and SUVs and is expanding its offerings. Hyundai has now added a new compact SUV to its lineup and I have to admit it was a pleasure to drive. The Kona subcompact SUV comes in a variety of powertrain offerings, including an all-electric model. I had a chance to drive the Ultimate FWD for a week in the Washington DC Metropolitan area. The Kona features a 1.6 L turbo 4-cylinder engine that makes 175 HP and 195 lb-ft of torque. Matted to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the Kona FWD gets an EPA rated 32 MPG on the highway. Featuring an 8” color touchscreen the telematics system has; integrated navigation, apple carplay and android auto capability, and a 315-watt 8 speaker sound system among other features.
