Named after the founder of the city of Detroit by the godfather of American luxury automobiles, Henry Leland, Cadillac is back as the standard of American automotive luxury. No vehicle portends Cadillac’s comeback more than the CTS. Our VP of Operations owns the prior edition CTS and the upgrades installed in the new CTS make it almost unrecognizable, having a minimal relationship to the past edition. The bold quality is superb from the wood treatment to the CUE system. The amount of technology packed into the new CTS is mind-numbing. We simply fell in love with the configurable digital cluster and the standard full-color Head-Up display, a fascinating evolution of the system developed at The Carnegie Mellon Institute for Complex Engineered Systems where my son conducts research. The new CTS is equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission, the first from GM, paddle shifters, technological innovations like Magnetic Ride Control, and safety features like Adaptive Cruise Control. The CTS has a 3.6 L V6 engine making 321 HP and 275 lb-ft of torque and getting 29 mpg on the highway and 19 mpg in the city in a much larger vehicle that has lost 250 lbs in weight. The tight, angular lines and LED lighting provide an imposing silhouette as the CTS heads down the highway, signaling a comeback to prominence, unexpected yet definitive in its impact. Cadillac is back and one can anticipate that the city of Detroit is not far behind. The price of the CTS Premium Collection I drove is $68,820 delivered. For more info, visit www.cadillac.com.
