The Mazda CX-5 putting its Signature on compact crossovers.

The Mazda CX-5 All-wheel-drive is a top-selling compact crossover with annual sales of around 150,000. This a consistent top seller for Mazda. A cousin of mine actually took delivery of a CX-5 not too long ago and she still enjoys her experience driving it. I had a chance myself to test drive the signature all-wheel-drive signature model.

It features a 2.5-liter turbo Skyactive engine that makes 227 horsepower and 310-pound feet of torque. I experienced exceptional driving dynamics. The model I drove came with 19-inch wheels, though my cousin had opted for the 20-inch option that’s available.

You also have Nappa leather seats that are heated and cooled. I had a chance to witness the CX-5 production line in Hiroshima Japan during my visit a few years ago. Reflecting on my visit made me appreciate the quality of the interior more. I also loved the 10.25-inch color display with Mazda’s great Connect telematics system.

I was able to experience the Bose 10 speaker sound system.

The system brought out the great dynamics in both of the songs I test with Paradise and Stop The Bullying. Both were created with the music department at Carnegie Mellon University. The CX-5 is also fuel-efficient.

You get an EPA-rated 27 miles per gallon on the highway. It is also integrates Android Auto and Apple Carplay in the Mazda Connect Telematics system. It has Mazda sign recognition in a color heads-up display, which I found fascinating. There’s a 6-speed automatic transmission.

I was able to spend my drives going up I-95 to Baltimore by the Inner Harbor. I love looking at the water there. It was a good part of my 4th of July weekend. I went into Fort Henry Harbor. I was also able to go further east on I-97 over  Rt-50 over the Bay Bridge. I was also able to drive around I-495 in the Washington metropolitan area.

Fit and finish are exceptional. The CX-5 is one of the vehicles leading the charge in Mazda’s move more premium and upscale. It’s been truly a delight to drive. The base price on the CX-5 Signature is $37,400. The only option was the paint job, so it came out to a delivered price of $39,025. For more information visit www.MazdaUSA.com
