I had a great week in the Mazda CX-50. I drove the turbo with a premium plus package that has all-wheel drive. The paint color first got me. It has what Mazda calls the zircon sand metallic.
It is almost like an army green color to it. It actually matched my shirt. I had a great time driving around the Washington DC metropolitan area. My driving was around I-495. I also did a lot of driving as far east on I-97 across the Bay Bridge to Kent Island.
I stopped by Annapolis Maryland taking some time to walk. Around the park, I do some meditation and prayer and drink bottled water to calm my spirit. That was actually exhilarating. Besides to listening to music, I made with the music department at Carnegie Mellon.
Inside the CX-50 there is an exceptional Bose sound system. It has 12 speakers that bring out the rich tenor in the music. I also was able to listen to watercolors on SiriusXM.
During my week spent in the CX-50, I was quite impressed by this new vehicle by Mazda. It has what Mazda calls a terracotta interior. The materials were rich with high quality. The fit and finish are impeccable. I visited Mazda’s factory in Hiroshima. I have seen multiple products come down the factory line. I am a true fan of what Mazda does. This vehicle however is made in Mazda’s new plant in Madison Alabama. It’s in partnership with Toyota. Looking at what was made in Hiroshima and looking at what’s made in the Alabama plant I was quite impressed.
My family had a chance to spend time with me in this CX-50. Both my mother and my son also chimed in on the quality and the build. My mother’s neighbor actually was inspired by one of my reviews to buy a CX-5. He also got a chance to take a look at the CX-50. Seeing the CX-5 and the CX-50 together, you could tell the differences. the CX-50 to me is positioned a little higher.
The CX-50 that I drove seemed more premium than the CX-5. A number of my family members own Mazdas. From the 6 to the CX-5. the new telematics is great. It’s one of the best. The 10.25-inch color center display also features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There’s a 3500-pound towing capacity on the CX50.
Underneath the hood is a 2.5-liter turbo engine. It makes 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. It’s also highly fuel-efficient. it gets an EPA-rated 29 miles per gallon on the highway. It comes with a six-speed automatic transmission. I love the handling.
