The AMG CLA 35 I drove for a week was beyond beautiful. It had what Mercedes calls a sun yellow paint job. It just looks like a work of art. In 2015 German rapper Cro turned a CLA 180 into a work of art. The “Street Art Style” CLA is on display at the Mercedes Benz Museum in Stuttgart, Germany.
I had the pleasure of touring the museum over a year ago. The 2020 AMG CLA 35 has the new MBUX interface.
The all-new MBUX interface is configurable and fully digital. It pairs two 10.25” displays. It also has some augmented reality features that overlay on the heads up display and navigation.
I love the fact that you could connect your mobile devices via NFC connect. It also has Android Auto and Apple Carplay along with wireless charging.
Under the hood is a 2.0 L inline 4-cylinder turbo engine. It makes 302 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. Featuring an AWD system and matted to a 7-speed automatic you get an EPA rated 29 MPG on the highway. Other highlights for me were the AMG steering wheel. I really loved the fit and finish. The active safety features were a huge plus but back to the design language.
The CLA gives you a baby CLS feel and for me, the CLS is one of the best designed Mercedes.
The base price on the model I drove was $46,900. Options like 19” wheels, AMG performance seats and other AMG packages, driver assistance, and more brought the delivered price to $65,765. The AMG CLA 35 is manufactured in Germany. For more information visit www.mubusa.com
