With a manual transmission, strong turbo power, and modern tech, it balanced fun and practicality in a way that resonated with my family and me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Modern Jetta GLI models use a 2.0\u2011liter turbocharged four\u2011cylinder engine producing about 228 horsepower and 258 pound\u2011feet of torque. Buyers can choose between a six\u2011speed manual or a seven\u2011speed dual\u2011clutch DSG automatic; the car I drove, like my younger brother\u2019s GLI, used the manual gearbox, which made every highway merge and back\u2011road overtake more engaging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
