The Volt has developed an identity unto itself within GM. It has some of the most passionate and satisfied customers in the auto industry so the next generation had to literally hit on all cylinders, though the preference was that it had none. For the next generation Volt, GM wanted to achieve over 50 miles of electric range and also 50 mpg when not in electric mode. Success was achieved on the electric range part. The Volt is powered by two electric motors and the new gen has a lighter, more powerful lithium-ion battery that when fully charged allows drivers to go for up to 53 miles on electric-only power. That is 15 miles more than the 38-mile range of the gen 1. The Volt also has a range extender 1.5L direct-injection engine so when battery power is low, the Volt switches to its gas-powered generator to continue the drive for a total 420 mile-range. The fuel economy of the gasoline engine is a combined 42 mpg. In addition to these benefits, drivers can enjoy an upgraded interior with premium materials and exceptional telematics via Chevy MyLink. The Volt Premier starts at $37,570 and was $40,925 delivered. For more info, visit www.chevrolet.com.
