Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus: The Ultimate Luxury SUV Experience

Cart

It has been a tremendous pleasure to drive the Mazda CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus. This is truly a luxury full-size SUV. My drives took me all over the Washington DC metropolitan area, including I-66, I-495, and all the way west on I-270 to I-70 toward the Appalachian hills in Hagerstown, to I-81 in the northeastern part of West Virginia, and through northern Virginia to McLean, Vienna, and Fairfax. I also drove through the city of DC, celebrating my birthday week as a true Scorpio.

I had a chance to drive my mother in the CX-90, and it was truly a fabulous experience. I really enjoyed myself and had an exceptional experience driving this rear-wheel-drive vehicle that also has an i-Activ all-wheel-drive system with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The e-Skyactiv engine is very powerful.

It makes 340 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque. At the same time, it gets an EPA-rated 28 miles per gallon on the highway. The styling is incredible, with high-quality and luxurious fit and finish, including Nappa leather, Alcantara inserts, and wood trim. Mazda has long had dreams of building a luxury brand, and the CX-90, shows exceptional execution.

The CX-90 also has a 5,000-pound towing capacity, so I was able to drive this over to Chesapeake Bay on I-97 and get to the Bay Bridge. Out there, you see a lot of people boating, and I could see the CX-90 fitting in perfectly.

It also seats six full-size adults in all three rows, with high-quality fit and finish. I must mention the slew of active safety features, including adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, heated and cooled seats, and the Skyactiv all-wheel-drive system.

You have a 12.3-inch fully integrated digital display and digital gauges. It comes with a 12-speaker Bose system, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, wireless charging—the whole works. Truly a must-have vehicle if you’re looking in the luxury SUV space. It cedes nothing to anybody, with a panoramic roof that I’m just truly loving.

My cousin-in-law owns a dealership, and this is her daily driver, so it was great to compare notes. I’ve driven the hybrid, but the inline 6 Turbo engine is truly powerful. The base price of the CX-90 3.3 Turbo S Premium Plus is $56,450 and delivered, it came out to $58,500. For more information, visit Mazda.
