Mercedes Benz re-introduced the world to 4 door coupes in 2005 with the first generation of the CLS. It was based on the E-Class but had a swoopy coupe-like design and struck a chord visually.

The second-generation CLS was very special to my family. I got to drive my son to his senior prom in a CLS 550 in 2012.

The CLS 450 is the latest iteration of Mercedes-Benz’s breathtaking four-door coupe. Now it’s evolved to a decent size vehicle. One thing I noticed driving in the CLS 450 4Matic is the size, the proportions, and comfort. You have many driving modes. Modes include; eco, comfort, sport plus, and you can even configure an individual mode. The CLS 450 4Matic is pretty fuel-efficient too. You get an EPA rated 30 miles per gallon on the highway.

The CLS 450 comes with an inline 6 cylinder turbo engine that also has a 48 Volt EQ Boost system. This mild-hybrid system adds both fuel efficiency and a boost to performance. It gives you 362 horsepower and 369 pound-feet of torque with an AWD system. It has a nine-speed automatic transmission. Fit and finish is what you expect in a Mercedes.

It also has the Mercedes-Benz digital telematics system, where you have two connected 12.3-inch screens. I love the G-Force feature which shows you the pound-feet of torque when you drive. I could think of no better to drive I-70 through those beautiful hills of Western Maryland. I Enjoyed the premium sound system playing calm the Calm channel on Sirius XM.

The Maryland travel center didn’t have a lot of people hanging around. It was great to walk around and get some exercise and get some breathing. It’s so helpful for my state of mind.

The base price on the model I drove is $72,450. With the AMG sports package and other packages, it came to $81,575, delivered from Germany. For more information visit www.mbusa.com
